Epilogue by The Antlers

                            Epilogue

Song Structure:

Intro
*Verse x2
Chorus
Verse x2
Chorus x3

*When I refer to the verse here I'm referring to the words of
the verse, not the actual chord progression. Each verse has a
couple cycles of the chord progression.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Intro:

The intro goes along these lines. Each chord is played for one measure.

Em Bm Am C Bm Am C D

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Verse:

G Bm C G(the root slide-down is G, F#) Em Am C D

The verse chord progression is played in such a pattern that
it's hard to write it out over the words as I've done with the
chorus below. You'll have to listen to the song to get it. It
just repeats until the chorus comes in.

As an added note for some people (such as myself),
the switch from G to F# is incredibly awkward. A possible solution
is to simply put your 1st finger on the 2nd fret of the 6th string
instead of the F# and play only the top 3 strings or so.
It's sounds more or less the same to anyone who isn't overly fussy.
A definite must for beginners who love this song and still want to play it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chorus:

Am G x3 then D Like so:

       Am
You're screaming,
    G
and cursing,
    Am
and angry,
    G
and hurting me,
         Am
and then smiling,
    G
and crying,
    D
apologizing.

Verse 1

     G Bm C G F#
In a nightmare, I am falling from the ceiling into bed beside you.
        Em Am C D
You're asleep, I'm screaming, shoving you to try to wake you up.
         G Bm C G
And like before, you've got no interest in the life you live when you're
F#
awake.
     Em Am C D
Your dreams still follow storylines, like fictions you would make.
         G Bm C G F#
So I lie down against your back, until we're both back in the hospital.
    Em Am C D
But now it's not a cancer ward, we're sleeping in the morgue.
        G Bm C G F#
Men and women in blue and white, they are singing all around you,
           Em Am C D
With heavy shovels holding earth, you're being buried to you neck.
        G Bm C G F#
In that hospital bed, being buried quite alive now.
              Em Am C D
I'm trying to dig you out but all you want is to be buried there together.

Verse 2
-------
           G Bm C G F#
I've woken up, I'm in our bed, but there's no breathing body there beside me.
Em Am C D
Someone must have taken you while I was stuck asleep.
           G Bm C G F#
But I know better as my eyes adjust, you've been gone for quite awhile now,
                 Em Am C D
And I don't work there in the hospital, they had to let me go.
       G Bm C G F#
When I try to move my arms sometimes, they weigh too much to lift.
            Em Am C D
I think you buried me awake, my one and only parting gift.
        G Bm C G F#
But you return to me at night, just when I think I may have fallen asleep.
     Em Am C D
Your face is up against mine, and I'm too terrified to speak.
