Upward Over The Mountain by Iron And Wine

                             Upward Over The Mountain

Beautiful Song, I haven't quite figured out the slide part yet but I'll update this if I
do (which is unlikely). I prefer finger picking throughout and flatpicking/palm muting
the rhythm parts.

The Intro and Bridge riff includes picking the open G and B strings periodically, but
always a different pattern/rhythm with a ton of ghost notes. I tried to provide a
pattern though I encourage you to work in your own way of doing it according to
what you hear/feel.

The way I hear it, the verses and choruses have two guitars, and a third when the slide
in. Though I consider it possible for the verse/chorus lines to be played on one guitar,
going to tab it with two.

bridge same as intro with variations in ghost notes

[verse]
Mother don't worry, I killed the last snake that lived in a creek bed
Mother don't worry, I got some money I saved for the weekend
Mother remember being so stern with the girl who was with me
Mother remember the blink of an eye when I breathed through your body

[chorus]
So may the sun/son rise bring hope where it once was forgotten
Suns/sons are like birds, flying upwards over the mountain

[verse]
Mother I made it up from the bruise on the floor of this prison
Mother I lost it all to the fear of the Lord I was given.
Mother forget me now, the creek drank the cradle you sang to
Mother forgive me I sold your car for the shoes that I gave you

[chorus]
So may the sun/son rise bring hope where it once was forgotten
Suns/sons can be birds, taken broken up to the mountain

[slide solo]

[verse]
Mother don't worry, I've got a cup and some friends on the corner
Mother don't worry she's got a garden and we're planting it together

[Bridge]
Mother remember the night when the dog had her pups in the pantry,
Blood on the floor fleas on their paws and you cried till the morning.
So may the sun/son rise bring hope where it once was forgotten
Suns/sons are like birds, flying always over the mountain.
