E B
By the second verse, dear friends
C#m A
My head will burst, my life will end
B
So, I'd like to start this one off by saying
 E
"Live and love"
E B
I was young and at home in bed
       C#m A
And I was hanging on the words some poem said
      B
And thirty-one
       E
I was impressionable
      F#m
I was upsettable

	    C#m A B
I tried to make my breathing stop, my heart beat slow
 	    C#m A B
So, when my mom and John came in, I would be cold

(bridge)

   E B C#m	A
From a bridge on Washington Avenue, the year of 1972
        B E
Broke my bones and skull and it was memorable
	E B
It was half a second and I was halfway down
       C#m A B
Do you think I wanted to turn back around and teach a class
 	  E F#
Where you kiss the ass that I've exposed to you

     	   C#m A B
And at the funeral, the University
	     C#m	A B
Cried at three poems they'd present in place of a broken me

(bridge)

      E B
I was breaking in a case of suds
 C#m A B E
At the brass rail, a fall-down drunk with his tongue torn out and his balls removed
	E B C#m A
And I knew that my last lines were gone while stupidly I lingered on,
      B
other wise men
               E
know when it's time to go
	F#m
And so I should, too

	C#m A B
And so I fly into the brightest winter sun
	C#m A B
Of this frozen town, I'm stripped down to move on
	        F#m A	B
My friends, I'm gone

      E
Well, I hear my father fall
    E
And I hear my mother call
    E B
And I hear the others all whisper, "Come home"

             E
I'm sorry to go
	       A
I loved you all so
    E B A
But this is the worst trip I've ever been on

   E
So, hoist up the John B. sail
(Hoist up the John B. sail)
  E
See how the main sail sets
(See how the main sail sets)
 E B
I've folded my heart in my head and I wanna go home
 		   E
With a book in my hand
  		  A
In the way I had planned
      E B E
Well, this is the worst trip I've ever been on
E
Hoist up the John B. sail
(Hoist up the John B. sail)
E
See how the main sail sets
(See how the main sail sets)
E B
I've folded my heart in my head and I wanna go home
		    E
With a book in each hand
(With a book in each hand)
	         A
In the way I had planned
(In the way I had planned)
  E B
I feel so broke up
           E
I wanna go home

version 2

At the beginning I've drawn up a general outline of the chord
progressions for each part, to ease memorization. This song can
get a little convoluted given Will Sheff's writing style, but
I've tried to minimize that as much as possible. To do this, I
have attempted to label the parts as verses, choruses, etc.
but don't hold it against me if those aren't the correct names
of the parts, this song is a little unconventional in that it's
hard to determine the parts of it.
