You Don't Know How Beautiful You Are by Jon Foreman

You Don't Know How Beautiful You Are

Capo:no capo
Standard Tuning
Key: C

Intro:
F C F C

Verse I:
F C
We learn to wear these masks so young
F C
Like a prison that keeps joy from gettin’ through
F C
And an angry silence grips our tongues
 F C
These weapons and our walls become our tombs
    F C
Yes, we’re the kids who’ve seen the darkness
F C
Always looking for the light
F C
You fall in love and then the rains come down
F C
And only part of you survives

Chorus I:
     F C
Come surrender your hidden scars
           F C
Leave your weapons where they are
            F
You’ve been hiding
      Am
But I know your wounded heart
   F C
And you don’t know how beautiful you are

Verse II:
F C
I’m tired of hiding who I really am
F C
Underneath these alibis
F C
I wanna know who you really are
F C
I wanna meet you here tonight
    F C
Yes, we’re not born with these defenses
F C
We’re not destined for this pain
F C
We hide ourselves and put the fig leaves on
      F C
But a mask could never cover up this shame

Chorus II:
                F C
And where we’re headed is a world apart
              F C
From where we started, we’ve come so far
             F
I’ll take my chances
        Am
Honey, you can have my heart
      F C
Cause you don’t know how beautiful you are

Bridge:
Am C F G
Love Surrender
Am C F G
Love surrender

Verse III:
       F Em
Future gardens from all this rain
       F C
Future flowers from present pain
            Am C F
We’re bound together and our lives are bound to change
[F] C
You don’t know how beautiful you are

Chorus III:
            F C
And all the ashes of all these dreams
              F C
I’ve seen the beauty of fallen leaves
            F Am
And someday maybe we’ll find out what it means
    F C
And you’ll find out how beautiful you are
F C
You’ll find out how beautiful you are

              F C
And you’ll find out how beautiful you are

Personal Note:
I placed an extra chord as a personal opinion.
The extra C I placed there (F*) is still C.
But I've seen Jon playing a Fadd2
(An easy form of playing that would be: x 2 2 0 1 0).
But to me sounds like an F/G.
You can play it however you think it sounds.
But I thought you would like to know this. :)
