Hemingway by Jon Allen

                                Hemingway

Tuning:E A D G B E
Key:Ab
Capo:1st fret

In the intro, the Em7 can also be played as an Em, the Dsus2 played as a D and
 the Cadd9 can be
played as C. They come as a trio really, so, either Em, D and C or Em7, Dsus2
and Cadd9.I prefer playing
it with the Em7/Dsus2/Cadd9 combo and think it sounds correct

At the end of the pre-chorus, you can just play D, Dsus4.

[Verse]
     G Cadd9
I am Hemingway, at the end of June, in Ketchum, Idaho
     G Cadd9
I am socially awkward, I am insecure and it begins to show
          G Cadd9
That I'm traumatised, growing steadily paranoid
  G Cadd9
A man might not face defeat, but he can be destroyed

[Pre-Chorus]
           D C G
I dream of lions and I dream about the sea
           D C D Dsus4 D Dsus2 D Dsus4
I dream of home wherever it may be

[Chorus]
         Am C G D
And you say, it's okay - I got your back, Hemingway,
          Am C G D
Serve one master through the night and another through the day
           C D Dsus4
And dont forget
N.C. G
You're Hemingway

[Interlude]

[Verse 2]
   G Cadd9
I stay up all night in a run-down bar somewhere by the sea
  G Cadd9
A stroke of my pen, will reveal what's best and worst in me
     G Cadd9
When I close my eyes I still wander through the desert dust
    G Cadd9
And I see generations lost in self-indulgence and in rampant

[Pre-Chorus]
              D C G
And I dream of Paris and I dream about Marie
           D C D Dsus4 D Dsus2 D Dsus4
I dream of home wherever it may be

[Chorus]
        Am C G D
And you say, it's ok- I got your back, Hemingway
         Am C G D
You keep thinking larger thoughts but we can go the shorter way
          C D Dsus4
But don't forget
N.C. Em7
You're Hemingway

[Solo]
    D Cadd9 G
Em7 D Cadd9 G
Em7 D Cadd9 G D

[Verse 3]
N.C. G Cadd9
But lately, I'm Kafka, and I'm not ashamed to say I wish to die
       G Cadd9
Arrest me, transform me, deny me, pue don't even tell me why
       G Cadd9
But it feels like all the doors that I want to walk through are closing up on
me
     G Cadd9
Even in a state of bliss I don't what life is supposed to be

[Pre-Chorus]
              D C G
Oh I dream of dying, when it feels like all hope is forlorn
            D C D Dsus4 D Dsus2 D Dsus4
But despite that I would time and again chose to be born

[Chorus]
            Am C G D
And you say hey, it's ok - I got your back, Hemingway
    Am C G D
No matter what they throw at us, there is a place for you to stay
       Am C G D
And I begin to understand that things will just turn out ok.
              Am C G D
If there's a bar and there's a drink, James will not be far away
            C D Dsus4
And I will live to see another day
       C D Dsus4 G
As the sun begins to show over Ketchum, Idaho
