C F G It was the bishop’s daughter and the harness maker’s son C F G Every district was invited, clear up to highway one, C F G The house and barn was full of folks and some were still to come G C And the preacher started preaching at 8:30 [Chorus] C F G C There was Abe Yoder and Joe Yoder and Ben Yoder and John Yoder and Amos Yoder and F Eli G C Yoder and Levi Yoder – he was there too. [Verse Two:] C F G Well the preacher preached till half past nine and then he took a seat C F G The next one hemmed and hawed and coughed and stared down at his feet C F G He finally got em married and then he said let’s eat G C Because there’s nothing like an Amish wedding dinner. C F G There was chicken and potatoes and green beans and wedding steak C F G And beets and cheese and pickles apple pie and chocolate cake C F G And ice cream coffee tea and juice enough to fill a lake G C and this was just the wedding meals first helping [Chorus] C There was… (do you wanna know who was there?) [Verse Three:] C F G And then came meatballs made of pork and beef lightly browned C F G And bowls of mashed potatoes about a hundred pounds C F G And everyone went silent as the platters went around G C There was no sound except for people chewing. C F G I sat next to Eli miller, now there’s a tough old bird, C F G We sat and chewed our dinner and didn’t say a word C F G Cause every thing we have to say we’ve already heard G C So what’s the use of pointless conversation? C F G We said goodbye in the hallway we said goodbye in the stairs. C F G We said goodbye in the barnyard in the cold November air. C F G We leaned against our buggy wheels and said goodbye from there G C And we headed home from one great Amish wedding.
