[Verse One]
C F G
There was an Amish wedding yesterday to our delight
C F G
Every Dutchman in the county was there with an appetite
C F G
We don’t all get along so good and yet we reunite
G C
Whenever we’re invited to a wedding.
C F G
It was the bishop’s daughter and the harness maker’s son
C F G
Every district was invited, clear up to highway one,
C F G
The house and barn was full of folks and some were still to come
G C
And the preacher started preaching at 8:30

[Chorus]
C F G C
There was Abe Yoder and Joe Yoder and Ben Yoder and John Yoder and Amos Yoder and
  F
 Eli
            G C
Yoder and Levi Yoder – he was there too.

[Verse Two:]
C F G
Well the preacher preached till half past nine and then he took a seat
C F G
The next one hemmed and hawed and coughed and stared down at his feet
C F G
He finally got em married and then he said let’s eat
G C
Because there’s nothing like an Amish wedding dinner.
C F G
There was chicken and potatoes and green beans and wedding steak
C F G
And beets and cheese and pickles apple pie and chocolate cake
C F G
And ice cream coffee tea and juice enough to fill a lake
G C
and this was just the wedding meals first helping

[Chorus]
C
There was… (do you wanna know who was there?)
C F G C F
Abe Troyer and Joe Troyer and Ben Troyer and John Troyer and Amos Troyer and Eli
Troyer
     G C
and Levi Yoder – He was there too.

[Verse Three:]
C F G
And then came meatballs made of pork and beef lightly browned
C F G
And bowls of mashed potatoes about a hundred pounds
C F G
And everyone went silent as the platters went around
G C
There was no sound except for people chewing.
C F G
I sat next to Eli miller, now there’s a tough old bird,
C F G
We sat and chewed our dinner and didn’t say a word
C F G
Cause every thing we have to say we’ve already heard
G C
So what’s the use of pointless conversation?

[Chorus]
C F G C
There was Abe Miller and Joe Miller and Ben Miller and John Miller and Amos
            F
Miller and Eli
             G N.C. G C
Miller and Levi Miller – Was he there? Yeah, he was there too.

[Verse Four]
C F G
Joe raised his hand for silence and then he told a joke
C F G
About an Amish preacher didn’t think before he spoke.
C F G
And Bishop Miller laughed so hard I thought he had a stroke
G C
And he leaked some tapioca out his nostril.
C F G
The older men began to sing and passed around the books.
C F G
The women washed the dishes in the kitchen with the cooks
C F G
The boys all watched the girls and they pretended not to look
G C
Cause they might just have themselves a date for supper

[Outro]
C F C G
Then late that night we all went out and hitched up our buggies
C F G C
And came back to tell the girls we’re ready to go home.

C F G
We said goodbye in the hallway we said goodbye in the stairs.
C F G
We said goodbye in the barnyard in the cold November air.
C F G
We leaned against our buggy wheels and said goodbye from there
G C
And we headed home from one great Amish wedding.

C F C G
There were Yoders and Troyers and Hostetlers and Herschbergers and
       C
Schwartzentrubers and
   F G C
Weavers and Millers were there too.
C F C G C
There were Beachys and Bylers and Bontragers and Burkholders and Keims and Erbs
and
   F G
Chupps and Frys [spoken] and well, I believe you was there too.
