Captain Glenn by John Doyle

                             Captain Glenn

Tuning:D A D G A D
Key:Bb
Capo:8th fret

I'm playing in DADGAD with capo 8th fret (kinda ridiculous, I know)
Chords trasnscibed to capo'd fret. For true chords, transpose until the first
chord in Bb.
I think he plays it live in C in some videos I saw.

Here are the chords and riffs as I play them

    D riff (1st & 5th line some verses) G Em A G/Bb

[Verse 1]
          D
It's of a ship and a ship of fame,
D G D
Launched off the stocks, bound to sail and maime
      F#m G D
With 150 brisk young men,
D G Em D
Well picked and chosen everyone
            D
And William Glenn was the Captain's name,
D G D
He was a fine and tall young man
          F#m G D
As fine a sailor as sailed the sea,
    D G Em D
And we were sailing to New Barbary

[Verse 2]
              D
On the 1st of April then we set sail,
D G D
Blessed with a fine and a prosperous gale
            F#m G D
And we were bound for New Barbary,
D G A D
With all of our Ocean's company
                    D
Well we hadn't been sailing a league or two,
D G D
Till all of our whole ship's jovial crew
              F#m G D
They all fell sick but sixty-three,
D G Em D
As we went sailing to New Barbary

[Verse 3]
              D
One night the captain then he did dream,
D G D
A voice came to and says to him
            F#m G D
Prepare yourself and your whole company,
D G A D
Tomorrow night you must lie with me
D G/Bb D
This woke the Captain in a terrible fright,
D G D
It being the third watch of the night
                  G/Bb D
And aloud for the boatswain he did call,
    D G/Bb
And told to him his secrets all

[Verse 4]
                    D
To the boatswain he says it grieves my heart,
D G D
To think that I've played a villian's part
         F#m G D
I slew a man that I held dear,
D G Em D
And all for the sake of his lady fair
                G/Bb G
And it's of the ghost that I am afraid,
     D G D
That has in me such terror bred
            G/Bb G
To keep the secret within your breast,
    G
And pray to God that he'll give you rest

[Instrumental]

[Verse 5]
               D
We hadn't been sailing a league but three,
D G D
Till the raging brewed a roaring sea
            F#m G D
And arose a tempest up in the sky,
D G A D
Which took our Seamen by surprise
                  F#m D G
And the main mast sprung by the break of day,
G D
Which had made our rigging all but to give way
            F#m G
Our gallant crew they cowered in fright,
   G
In terror of that fatal night

[Verse 6]
             D
And then the boatswain he did declare,
D G D
That the Captain was a murderer
          F#m D G
This so enraged the whole ships' crew
         G Em D
Then overboard our captain threw
                F#m D G
Our treacherous captain then he being gone
          G D
And me to plea there came a calm
               F#m D G
And the winds abated and so did the sea
 G
As we went sailing to New Barbary

[Instrumental]

[Verse 7]
                 D
And when we came to the Spanish shore
D G D
Our gunship for to repair
       F#m D G
People there were amazed to see
G A D
Our dismal case and such misery
           F#m D G
Now Seamen all wherever you may be
  G D
I pray you take a warning from me
                 F#m D G
As you love your life won't you have a care
    G
And never go sailing with a murderer

[Instrumental]
