Poor Man by Jeffrey Martin Poor Man Tuning:E A D G B E Key:G Capo:2nd fret The VERSE chord pattern is a famliar one - Em G C But the CHORUS embellishment (D9) and the OUTRO run down (G - G/f# -) make it more interesting. The trickiest part is what he is doing with his right hand. He's using a basic 'educated thumb' playing alternate bass note and a middle note for each chord. If you have this technique already then the rest is pretty easy - if not you will need to watch the video carefully and practise what he does. When you listen to the song lots and play along then the pattern will sound easier. NB: the second chord in the OUTRO is really a G/f# (ie simple G with an F# note on the bottom string) [Verse chords] [Chorus chords] [Outro chords] Em G C D9 Em G G Gmaj7 C Em e|-0--x-0--| e|-0--0--x--| e|-3-3-----0-0--| B|-0--0-1--| B|-3--0--0--| e|-0-0-----1-0--| G|-0--0-0--| G|-0--0--0--| e|-0-0-----0-0--| D|-2--0-2--| D|-4--2--0--| e|-0-0-----2-2--| A|-2--2-3--| A|-5--2--2--| e|-2-0-----3-2--| E|-0--3-x--| E|-x--0--3--| e|-3-2-----3-0--| [Verse 1] Em G C He’s an asphalt man just like his daddy Em G C Ten hour days of rolling tar buys a double wide Em G C Down an old dirt road outside the city Em G C On the edge of a muddy creek and the county line [Chorus] D9 Em Oh Maggie, keep an eye on the water line D9 Em The car won’t start and the money never comes in on time D9 Em C D9 Oh Maggie, keep an eye on the water line I feel it moving [Verse 2] Em G C They’ve got a baby on the way but his wife still feels empty Em G C Says it’s hard to feel pretty when they're always counting dimes Em G C He sits up nights in the kitchen in the dark when it’s raining Em G C He can’t sleep for the sound pounding in his mind [Chorus] D9 Em Oh Maggie, keep an eye on the water line D9 Em The car won’t start and the money never comes in on time D9 Em C D9 Oh Maggie, keep an eye on the water line I feel it moving [Outro] G Gmaj7 C I’m not a bad man, I’m a poor man G Gmaj7 C I’m not a bad man, I’m a poor man G Gmaj7 C G C G I’m not a bad man, I’m a poor man sinking -----------
