The Tourists Complaint by Leon Rosselson

              The Tourists Complaint

[Verse 1]
           D G D
Well, I've done my tourist duty up and down the Eiffel Tower
                                     A
And I've watched flamenco dancing in Seville.
     D G D
I've sampled Spanish sherry and been down with dysentery,
                       A D
Cos it's not a holiday unless you're ill.
     G D
I've seen the Cote d'Azur where the air is clean and pure
                                  A
And the Coca-Cola adverts grow on trees.
    D G D
The waiters are offensive and the scenery's expensive
                    A D
And they charge you ten percent just to breathe.

[Chorus]
         G D
Cos I've seen the Mona Lisa and the leaning Tower of Pisa.
                               A
I've been to Timbuktu and back again;
        D G D
But the only thing I know is that everywhere I go,
                            A D
The Coca-Cola always tastes the same.

[Verse 1]
         D G D
I've got stacks of souvenirs I've collected over years,
                              A
Like gondolas that play Santa Lucia.
         D G D
I've got ash trays, bags and boxes and a little wooden whatsit,
                       A D
But what's it for I've not the least idea.
       G D
It was from an Arab peasant in the middle of the desert
                                   A
That I bought a native pot made of clay,
    D G D
But when I turned it over, it was only to discover,
                    A D
It was manufactured in the USA.

[Chorus]
         G D
Cos I've seen the Mona Lisa and the leaning Tower of Pisa.
                               A
I've been to Timbuktu and back again;
        D G D
But the only thing I know is that everywhere I go,
                            A D
The Coca-Cola always tastes the same.
[Verse 3]
       D D
Once I found a quiet village in the heart of Sicily.
                                A
No cars or noisy tourists did I meet;
        D D
And the view was picturesque as the sun set in the west
                A D
And the natives urinated in the street.
            G D
Well, their folk customs were charming. I remember well one morning
                                     A
When the Mayor and 13 others all got shot,
    D
And I thought that things were swinging
         G D
When the church bells started ringing.
                      A D
Then they rang for 30 days without a stop.

[Chorus]
         G D
Cos I've seen the Mona Lisa and the leaning Tower of Pisa.
                               A
I've been to Timbuktu and back again;
        D G D
But the only thing I know is that everywhere I go,
                            A D
The Coca-Cola always tastes the same.

[Verse 4]
         D G D
Now I've had my photo taken in a market in Tangier,
                                       A
And last year went to see the sites of Greece,
        D G D
But the only thing I saw were a million other tourists
                          A D
And I'd seen them all the year before in Nice.
   G D
So next year I'll stay at home. No longer will I roam..
                                          A
I don't care what the blooming neighbours say.
           D G D
I'll buy a sun-ray lamp and a set of foreign stamps
                       A D
And I'll send myself a postcard every day.

[Chorus]
         G D
Cos I've seen the Mona Lisa and the leaning Tower of Pisa.
                               A
I've been to Timbuktu and back again;
        D G D
But the only thing I know is that everywhere I go,
                            A D
The Coca-Cola always tastes the same.
