[Verse 2] C Well the Principle brought the new Rebbe in on the first day of the term, G G7 C And he said to him "Show discipline, be strong and tough and firm". C C7 F "Don''t think these youngster run the school", he said with a big frown, F C G G7 C "And by the way, for the next few weeks I''m going out of town". [Verse 3] C But this here Rebbe he was strange, he never lost his cool, G G7 C He just kept on teaching, while we broke all the rules, C C7 F And though we hadn''t even learned a single word all year, F C G G7 C It was Pesach time already, and the Rebbi was still here. C C7 F All nine of us got on the bus with our gloves and bats, F C G G7 C Rebbi also came along in his jacket, tie and hat [Verse 5] C Right from the start we all could see things weren''t going right, G G7 C Some big strong kid from Bensonhurst had hit one out of sight. C C7 F And just when things were looking up, the tide about to turn, F C G G7 C Our catcher went a broke his leg while sliding into third. [Verse 6] C "It''s a forfeit". cried the other team, "you only got eight guys", G G7 C "No we don''t", a deep voice said, much to our surprise, C C7 F "Since I am their Rebbe, well the fair thing it would seem, F C G G7 C Is let me be the ninth man, the ninth man on this team". [Verse 7] C Rebbi went, picked up the bat, faced the pitch with a smile, G G7 C Knocked the cover off that ball, went about half a mile. C C7 F He flew around the bases, and scored the winning run, F C G G7 C We danced and cheered until he said "Now boys'' you owe me one. " [Verse 8] C Next day in the classroom, no one moved and no one stirred, G G7 C Rebbe started teaching, and his voice it could be heard, C C7 F We all said, "Hey, its interesting. The man he is no bore", F C G G7 C The legendary east-side-bums were gone for ever more.
