Lyin Eyes by Eagles

             Lyin Eyes

[Verse]
G Gmaj7 C
City girls just seem to find out early
Am D
How to open doors with just a smile
  G Gmaj7 C
A rich old man, and she wont' have to worry;
       Am C G
She'll dress up all in lace and go in style

[Chorus]
------
          G C G
You can't hide your lyin' eyes
         Em Bm Am D
And your smile is a thin disguise
             G G7 C A
I thought by now you'd realize
      Am D G
There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes

Additional Lyrics
-----------------

Late at night a big old house gets lonely
I guess every form of refuge has its price.
And it breaks her heart to think her love is only
Given to a man with hands as cold as ice.

So she tells him she must go out for the evening
To comfort an old friend who's feelin' down
But the knows where she's goin' as she's leavin'
She is headed for the cheatin' side of town

[Chorus]

She gets up and pours herself a strong one
And stares out at the stars up in the sky
Another night, it's gonna be a long one
She draws the shade and hangs her head to cry

My, oh my, you sure know how to arrange things
You set it up so well, so carefully
Ain't it funny how your new life didn't change things
You're still the same old girl you used to be

[Chorus]

The strum patterns that I use on this song are a little different than
the Eagles. They did more 8th notes and didn't break the pattern up
as much as I do. I think this way works best for a solo guitarist
playing this song. I do however use the eight note strum with my right
hand. Constantly moving it in 8th note patterns and only striking the
chords in rhythm. That way the up strums and down strums fall into
place.

"One of the nice things about the Eagles is, not only are they
accomplished musicians with the instruments they play, but are also
all accomplished guitarists. If you have three guitarist, this song
should come off really nice. Or if you are using a multi track, one
person can do it."

"One of the things the eagles did to get such a full
sound is to have acoustic guitars doing the same thing but at different
octaves. I've included this part to do that. It will give you a rich
full sound, almost like a 12 string when played with the above pattern."

may be some descrepencies. If you have a multi track recorder you may

Of all the guitar players that I've known, most of them knew
the verse part of this song. None of them however seemed to
know the chorus. I decided one day that I was going to learn
it. Here is what I came up with. I won't swear that it is
exactly how the Eagles play it, but it sounds pretty close to
me.

[Verse 1]

 G Gmaj7 C
City girls just seem to find out early,
Am D
how to open doors with just a smile.
  G Gmaj7 C
A rich old man and she won't have to worry;
       Am C G
she'll dress up all in lace and go in style.

G Gmaj7 C
Late at night a big old house gets lonely;
  Am D
I guess every form of refuge has its price.
G Gmaj7 C
And it breaks her heart to think her love is only
      Am C G
Given to a man with hands as cold as ice.

       G Gmaj C
So she tells him she must go out for the evening
    Am D
To comfort an old friend who's feeling down.
    G Gmaj7 C
But he knows where she's goin' as she's leavin';
      Am C G
She's headed for that cheatin' side of town.

[Chorus]

          G C G Em Bm Am D

             G G9 C A Am D G
I thought by now you'd realize there ain't no way to hide those lying eyes.

[Verse 2]
(same as verse 1)

On the other side of town a boy is waiting
with stormy eyes and dreams no-one could steal
She drives on throught the night anticipating

She whispers that its only for a while
She says that soon she'll be coming back forever
She pulls away and leaves him with a smile

          G C G Em Bm Am D

             G G9 C A Am D G
I thought by now you'd realize there ain't no way to hide those lying eyes.

[Verse 3]

    G Gmaj7 C
She gets up and pours herself a strong one
    Am D
And stares out at the stars up in the sky.
 G Gmaj7 C
Another night, it's gonna be a long one;
    Am C G
She draws the shade and hangs her head to cry.

(same chords prog.)

And she wonders how it ever got this crazy

You set it up so well, so carefully.
         G Gmaj7 C
Ain't it funny how your new life didn't change things;

You're still the same old girl you used to be.

There ain't no way to hide your lying eyes
      Am D G
There ain't no way to hide your lying eyes

version 9

At the start of the chorus, for one beat of the second G chord, the note C is added at the first fret of the
B string, making the chord a Gsus4. It's hard to explain but if you listen to the song it's easy to pick up.

The G chords at the end of the verses carry on into the start of the next verse. However at the end the
verses before the chorus there is a 1 bar pause in the music, again it'll be easier to work out by listening
to the song

Standard tuning.
